New Cultilène plant

Cultilène built a new mineral wool plant for the needs of agriculture. Production is located in the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. The newest equipment allowed the plant technologists to achieve absolute homogeneity of the substrate structure and the absence of any inclusions. The renewed Cultilène substrate is not inferior, and in many respects even surpasses the shortening of the brand of agricultural mineral wool.

In 2006, Beretra became the official Cultilène dealer in Russia.

What is a mineral wool substrate?

The mineral-cotton substrate is made of basalt, a stone located in the surface layers of the earth's crust and falls on the surface in the form of lava.

In our furnaces, we melt a bench that freezes on the surface of the earth many thousands of years ago. After this, the liquid basalt is twisted in large centrifuges until the necessary fibers are obtained. Cooled to 250 ° C fibers are pressed to obtain the finished mineral wool substrate. The structure of the substrate is quite airy, time is 97% of the structure. Basalt turns into mineral wool: we get an absolutely natural and inert substrate without any impurities.

The advantages of growing on mineral wool substrate

The popularity of the mineral wool substrate is constantly growing due to the following factors:

  • The substrate is made of high-quality natural material in accordance with the exact specifications
  • The substrate is inert and does not contain pathogens.
  • Substrate gives higher yield
  • Substrate is easy to handle
  • Substrate is more efficient when using water and energy
  • Minimizes the use of disinfectants.
  • Substrate is easily recycled.

Nature is fickle and unpredictable. The mineral-rich substrate will help reduce risks and make cultivation more controlled.

Substrate properties

Cultural has developed a wide range of products to meet the requirements of the crop. We produce various types of mineral wool substrate and related products.

The most important characteristics of Culten products:

  • effective air to water ratio
  • reliable homogeneity
  • excellent strength and dimensional stability
  • ease of control
  • inertness and absence of pathogenic bacteria
  • plastic packaging and high quality seams
  • if necessary, you can make holes for landing

Air-to-water ratio

Cullen mineral wool has a large water buffer, but it also makes water more accessible to the plant. Both the plant and the greenhouses will benefit from this. The Pf curve on the graph shows that there is practically no water at the top of the mat (> 25%), but there is always access to the plants in the plant.

This complex ratio of water and air is the result of an exact production process. Cullen pays special attention to the water-air ratio, since it is the key to the controllability of the substrate.

Controllability is Cultilen's number one priority: you have to manage greenhouses, be able to fully control the process, and this is possible only with full control. In addition to controllability, we are also concerned about the homogeneity of the mineral wool substrate. This property should provide free and continuous growth of the root system under constant conditions. Only under this condition will you be able to precisely plan the necessary amount of water and nutrients necessary for obtaining an optimum yield. The graph below illustrates Cullen substrate homogeneity.

The smaller the gap between the divisions of the graph, the more homogeneous the substrate. The green row is more uniform than the red. Uniformity also means a constant distribution of water and air in the mat. However, the work and controllability of the substrate partly depend on such factors:

  • The surface on which the mat is located must be flat and have the necessary slope for drainage (otherwise wet and dry places may form in the mat)
  • The supply of nutrient solution from droppers should be uniform
  • Differences in similarity will result from different growth rates.
  • Durability and size invariance

Cullen mineral wool products are well known for their functional durability. The strength of the mineral wool substrate is precisely adapted to its period of use (1.2 years or perennial mother) and / or method of use (vegetative reproduction or type of plant). Due to its strength, the structure of the mats remains intact for the entire period of use, which means maintaining optimum controllability. Durability also provides the same size in all circumstances. Moreover, the invariance of the sizes of the mats and Cullen cubes ensures their maximum contact with each other.

It means that:

  • root system has improved growth from cube to mat
  • the cube is more stable on the mat.

Inertness and absence of pathogenic bacteria

In the initial state, the substrate does not contain nutrients. Any disease-causing fungi and organisms are destroyed in the production process under the influence of high temperatures. The ratio of raw materials and the production process provides the substrate inertness and freedom from harmful bacteria.

Polyethylene packaging

Cullen uses high quality black and white polyethylene to pack its products. The white outer surface reflects light and heat, while the black inner surface ensures the growth of the root system, as in natural conditions, in the dark.

The advantages of polyethylene:

  • improved temperature control (less light = less heat) reduces the possibility of fungal growths
  • Algae does not develop under the film, because there is no light
  • ends rooted easier to develop
  • Because Cullen sells its products worldwide, we use polyethylene suitable for use even in extreme climatic conditions.
  • resistance to UV rays meets high standards. The film that is used in all mats withstands up to 140 Kly.

Seam processing

The seams resist well the water pressure that is present in the moistened mats prior to cultivation. Sealed seams are waterproof and durable. It prevents to have from puncturing.

Holes for landing

On request, landing holes can be made in the packaged mats. This provides the following benefits:

  • time saving growers
  • no film trash
  • precise automatic hole positioning
  • hole sizes are unchanged

The shape of the hole depends on the plant.

We make holes in the shape of the letter H for growing cucumbers. This hole has a size of 100 x 200 mm and is covered with two layers of film. Opening the first film layer, a 100 x 100 mm hole appears for the first plant. By tilting the second layer of the film, the next plant can be started without delay. Mineral wool underneath it will not be contaminated with algae.

This hole can be perfectly combined with a hole of 100 x 100 mm, where one hole is open for the first plant and the U-hole is still closed for the second. You can decide for yourself where this hole will be and in which direction it will open.

Packing and shipping

Cullen products are usually delivered on pallets. Each pallet is well protected by means of supports and foil, under which the goods are wrapped in packaging film for transportation.

By packing mineral wool mats in plastic bags, we can transport them more efficiently over long distances: load 10% more than usual into a container.

At the end, a label with information about the product is pasted on each finished pallet.

In this way, we can track the movement of each pallet from the warehouse to the end user.

Substrate for vegetables

Exact ®

Sturdy mat for one-year use. The strength of the mat ensures that the air-to-water ratio remains constant throughout its use. Thus, the cultivation conditions remain unchanged and manageable throughout the year. Basically, the horizontal structure of the mat fibers ensures good formation of the root system and its branching throughout the mat. Moreover, the fiber structure promotes air circulation in the mat and ideal moisture and power control.

X-fiber

This new type of mat has a unique fiber structure. The fibers literally stretch in all directions. This structure has certain advantages:

  • Plant rooting is faster, which means good initial growth of young plants.
  • very accurate moisture and nutrient control possible
  • improved ventilation due to more pores

MaXXima

More wet alternative.

Mother MaXXima are made from unique X-structure fibers for perfect control and root development. MaXXima differs from other types of mats with a higher ability to retain moisture in intensive growing conditions.

Exact ® II

Extra strong mat, similar in properties to Exact. Due to strong fibers, losses after steaming are minimized. The mat remains very stable and works reliably for two years.

Exact ® III

The horizontal fiber structure of Exact III mats is designed for long-term use, if necessary also for growing in containers. The mother has an air structure, so the air-to-water ratio is maintained at the required level and is easily controlled.

These mats are recommended to steam.

Substrate for flowers

Exact flora rose

Especially for the cultivation of roses was developed very stable perennial type of mats. It is manufactured according to high production standards from high-content mineral wool. This air saturation ensures the development of good root development. Moreover, during the period of use the mat remains strong and retains its size, while the air-to-water balance is optimal. Due to these properties, plant growth can be carefully controlled throughout the entire time of use of the mat. The EU level and pH can be maintained at the desired level by making changes to the irrigation strategy.

X-fiber Rose

X-fiber rose has unique X-structure of fibers. Rooting plants in this structure is as easy as in the soil. The natural structure of X-fiber rose improves the growth of seedlings and simplifies the work of plant growers. X-fiber rose provides improved water and EU control, good rooting and uniformity.

Cultilène Caldéra

Cultilène Caldéra has a horizontal fiber structure like Exact Flora. This is a good combination of price and quality. Cultilène Caldéra is a strong and reliable mat with a large amount of air, easily controlled, which minimizes the possibility of damage to the root system.
